Opportunities in Adult Education at Leaside United Church
Meeting once a month on Saturday morning from 10:00 to noon, participants gather for a period of led meditation, music, quiet time and reflection to deepen the sense of the spiritual at the center of one's life. Several new study groups are planned from February through April 2008 based on Jesus 24/7 a resource written by David Bruce. There will also be a group on Challenging Empire, the United Church's 2008 Mission Theme Study. For several years, eight to ten persons have met on a Sunday morning before church to discuss books they have read on religion and spirituality. The pre-marriage course at Leaside United Church provides an opportunity for couples to communicate with one another about the vital components of a lasting relationship. In the fall and spring, our ministers give leadership to those planning to have children baptised and for those adults desiring baptism. It is an opportunity to realize the tradition, the significance and the meaning of the sacrament. New Members Class This is an opportunity for adults considering transfering their membership to Leaside or becoming members of the church for the first time or for those wanting to explore again what it means to be a member of the United Church. The 2008 classes will use the resource Jesus 24/7. Earthworms At LUC the Earthworm’s group is concerned about peace and justice issues. Through reflection, education and action we do our best to work towards God’s vision of Shalom. |
