The Earthworms

Earthworms are often an underestimated creature. Deep in the soil they extend their slithery bodies, breaking down vegetative matter, aerating and preparing the ground for seeds that will bring new life.

Dr. Ursula Franklin has said that working for peace is ‘earthworm’ work. It is work that requires patience, effort and long term commitment even when hope seems dim and successes are limited.

At LUC the Earthworm’s group is concerned about peace and justice issues. Through reflection, education and action we do our best to work towards God’s vision of Shalom

In the Spring of 2006, Earthworms focussed on concerns and questions about water, using some of the resources produced by the United Church of Canada and the ecumenical group Kairos. Beginning March 12th, 2006, after the church service we hosted a Lenten study based on Living Waters, Daily Reflections for Lent.

Your Ecological Footprint
The Earthworms have been exploring what it means to live with respect in creation. The article in the November issue of Happenings on Measuring Your Ecological Footprint has been added to our website.

Lenten Devotional Books
The Earthworms have written and produced a Lenten Devotional Book on the theme of Living with Respect in Creation which can be accessed on our website by clicking the preceding link and will be on sale starting Sunday, Feb. 11, 2007. The cost of $10 each will offset production expenses. Join the Earthworms on March 11 and 25, 2007 to discuss the devotionals.
