The Earthworms Earthworms are often an underestimated creature. Deep in the soil they extend their slithery bodies, breaking down vegetative matter, aerating and preparing the ground for seeds that will bring new life. Dr. Ursula Franklin has said that working for peace is ‘earthworm’ work. It is work that requires patience, effort and long term commitment even when hope seems dim and successes are limited. At LUC the Earthworm’s group is concerned about peace and justice issues. Through reflection, education and action we do our best to work towards God’s vision of Shalom In the Spring of 2006, Earthworms focussed on concerns and questions about water, using some of the resources produced by the United Church of Canada and the ecumenical group Kairos. Beginning March 12th, 2006, after the church service we hosted a Lenten study based on Living Waters, Daily Reflections for Lent.
